The 1954 catalog states: “Laid in the volume is a catalogue description of the present copy by a California bookseller, stating ‘. . . Purchased from the estate of Mrs. U. S. Grant, Jr., at auction in Beverley[sic] Hills, December 14th—from the library of U. S. Grant, Jr., San Diego, Calif.’ U. S. Grant and F. J. Hogan Bookplates.” Frank J. Hogan’s collection was sold at auction in 1946. The 1954 auction sold the collection of Walter P. Chrysler, Jr.
