Livy darling, Judge Turner has been in—however, I believe you do not know him. Ross Winans has just gone. He came to invite me to dinner tomorrow, but we dine with President Gilman of Johns Hopkins University, or President Hopkins of John Gilmans University, derned if I remember which. (Oh, a word about Cable’s lovely blunder at Tom Nast’s—too long to write, must tell it when I come.)

Winans married one of the Whistler girls, & the other one is living with him. He has built a palace 6 miles in the country. Celeste married an English-Irishman named Hutton, whom she met in Russia—has a girl-child 4 months old. She lives here at the old Winans place, s & invites me to call—which I can’t. Both the Whistler boys are married—one lives in New York, & I believe the other one lives here.

R. M. Johnston, author of the Dukesboro’ Tales has called—I will see him presently. That dam Goddard has called with some social proposition or other, which we can’t accept.

I have telegraphed acceptance of Mrs. Sage’s invitation.

The pictures are immense company to me. Do thank the dear children—including Jean—for the good letters which came with the pictures. Ich liebe dich.
