Dear Charley—

Instruct your clerks to use the telegraph less fr◊l freelyemendation. There was no occasion to telegraph me about that play yesterday. There are various minor economies which could be introduced into your office with advantage, possibly—& even probably—but this one is certain, Charley. I know the motive was good, & that it was supposed I was in a hurry—but f it is not twice in 5 years that a W. U. telegram beats a letter between N. Y. & Hartford.
