Textual Commentary
Previous Publication:

SLC 1982, no page, facsimile.

Provenance:

The letter was apparently kept with the holograph manuscript of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, which passed from Elisha Bliss, Jr., to his son Walter. Walter Bliss died in 1917; before 1926, the manuscript was bought by Nicholas F. Brady. After Brady’s death in 1930, the manuscript became the property of his widow, Genevieve Garvan Brady, who donated it to DGU in April 1934 (SLC 1982, ix).
